Good morning everyone. The chill of autumn weather has arrived. The trade off for what some of you may consider cold is the low slanting rays of light at sunset that warm my heart enough to try to hold onto with a camera image which in review always seems to fall short. Still the sky takes on a deeper blue this time of year and the air (and water) cool noticeably making us feel alive in a way that balances the heat and humidity of summer. I enjoyed many of the guesses as to last week's mystery photo taken by Jim. Alton nailed it when he guessed a new skylight over the galley. The opening will be about 40X18 inches and should brighten up the galley and cool things off during by the heat of the cookstove. By the way Ina, Jen started working on splitting your cookstove wood for 2012. In the office where most of our attention has been focused we are working on the fall newsletter, hopefully going to print this week. Good morning everyone. We saw these Canada geese in Jericho Bay. I don't recall seeing geese on the bay like this. We have seen them overhead but not resting on the water. I am used to seeing them resting on the ponds and stream and in the salt bays protected from the ocean swells. I guess they were just flying bye! Have a great day. Be well. Do good. Good morning everyone. The light in the sky and on the islands is so clear this time of year. I know this was a favorite time for Mary and she is up there smiling as the inevitable changes come with the seasons. While the temperatures are certainly cooling off that same cold air makes everything seem bigger and so much more clear. Click on the top image and notice how the bell bouy to the left looks so tall and the Graves ledges look so dark and ominous. The clouds look darker, the green look greener, the bay looks stirred up as the light is refracted by the cold dense air close to the surface. A whole new definition to, "Wow... that's cool!" Good morning everyone. Well we have finished the sailing season in very fine fashion. Notice the bow-in winter configuration and the lack of sails on the spars. I won’t try to gloss over the amazing wonders, and challenges, that have given this season its unique twists. A few short sentences can’t sum it all up. I have been marveling with wonder at the amazing people and places we have been. While I will miss the bay very much I will also tell you it feels good to be ashore back with family and friends. These last few cruises were certainly challenging with weather systems moving through like a ball in ping pong match. The foliage is like nothing I have seen along the coast in years. My jaw hung open Saturday as Jack Frost’s magic spread far and wide across the entire Camden Hills. A photograph just couldn’t capture it all.
